Our Services
Comprehensive building investigation services for homeowners, medically sensitive individuals, physicians, and remediation professionals.
Environmental Assessment Is More Than Testing
Environmental testing provides valuable information, but laboratory results alone rarely tell the complete story. A comprehensive indoor environmental assessment investigates the building as a system—examining its history, construction, moisture conditions, ventilation, potential contamination sources, and pathways through which contaminants may affect occupied spaces. Our approach combines building science, investigative techniques, and targeted environmental sampling to answer three fundamental questions: What is happening in this building? Where is it coming from? What needs to be done to correct it? At My Home My Health, our involvement does not necessarily end with the initial inspection and report. We provide guidance throughout the investigative and remediation process, helping clients navigate additional discoveries, corrective work, environmental cleaning, and post-remediation verification.
Comprehensive Indoor Environmental Assessment
Understanding the building as a whole. Our most comprehensive service is a systematic investigation of the indoor environment, designed to identify potential contamination sources, moisture-related building defects, and conditions that may adversely affect indoor environmental quality. Each assessment begins with a review of the property's history, known water intrusion, previous remediation, and the client's specific concerns. The onsite investigation may include evaluation of accessible building assemblies, moisture measurements, infrared thermography, HVAC inspection, and targeted environmental sampling. Laboratory findings are interpreted in conjunction with building observations and other investigative evidence. Clients receive a detailed written report documenting significant findings, laboratory results, recommendations for additional investigation when necessary, and guidance regarding corrective actions. Because concealed conditions may not be apparent during the initial inspection, additional investigation may be recommended as new information becomes available.
Moisture & Water Intrusion Investigation
Identifying the sources and pathways of moisture intrusion. Moisture is one of the primary factors contributing to microbial growth and deterioration of building materials. Understanding where moisture originates and how it moves through a building is fundamental to developing an effective corrective strategy. Our investigations focus on identifying existing or historical moisture conditions, potential water-entry pathways, and building assemblies that may conceal damage. Depending on the circumstances, investigative methods may include moisture measurements, infrared thermography, examination of building-envelope details, selective exploratory openings, and coordination with qualified specialists for diagnostic water testing. Our objective is not simply to locate moisture, but to understand its source, extent, and potential impact on surrounding building materials.
HVAC System Evaluation
Evaluating HVAC systems as potential sources and pathways of indoor contamination. Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems play an important role in indoor environmental quality. Under certain conditions, moisture accumulation, air leakage, contaminated internal components, and inadequate filtration may contribute to the distribution of particulate and biological contaminants throughout a building. Our evaluations focus on the environmental condition of accessible HVAC components, including air-handling equipment, evaporator coils, supply and return plenums, ductwork, filtration systems, and other relevant components. Where indicated, targeted sampling may be performed to help characterize suspected contamination. We also evaluate observable conditions that may contribute to moisture accumulation, condensation, and unintended air movement, and coordinate with qualified HVAC professionals when mechanical evaluation or corrective work is needed.
Targeted Sampling & Laboratory Analysis
Using testing strategically to answer specific investigative questions. Environmental sampling is most valuable when it is selected to address a specific concern or investigative hypothesis. Rather than relying on a single testing method, we select sampling strategies based on building observations, suspected contamination sources, the questions being investigated, and the client's objectives. Depending on the circumstances, testing may include: MSqPCR fungal DNA analysis Air and surface sampling Viable microbial sampling Mycometer analysis Actinomycetes testing Endotoxin analysis Other specialized environmental testing, when appropriate Laboratory findings are evaluated in the context of building conditions, sample collection methods, and the limitations of the analytical techniques. Testing is one component of the investigation—not a substitute for identifying moisture sources, evaluating building conditions, or understanding how contamination may be distributed.
Remediation Planning & Ongoing Project Guidance
From investigative findings to a coordinated corrective strategy. Identifying contamination is only the beginning. Effective remediation requires an understanding of the underlying moisture sources, the extent of affected materials, and the appropriate sequence of corrective work. We develop project-specific remediation recommendations and protocols based on the investigation's findings, taking into consideration the building's construction, observed contamination, potential concealed conditions, and the needs of the occupants. Our involvement may include consultation with remediation contractors, coordination with building and HVAC specialists, review of newly exposed conditions, and refinement of the remediation scope as additional information becomes available. We recognize that remediation is often an evolving process. Conditions concealed within walls, floors, ceilings, and mechanical systems may only become apparent once work begins. Our role is to provide independent environmental guidance and continuity throughout the project, helping ensure that corrective efforts remain aligned with the investigative findings and established remediation objectives.
Post-Remediation Verification (PRV)
Evaluating whether remediation objectives have been achieved. Post-Remediation Verification is an independent evaluation performed following remediation to assess whether the identified contamination has been appropriately addressed and the specified remediation objectives have been met. Our verification process may include visual inspection, evaluation of cleanliness and moisture conditions, review of source corrections, and targeted environmental sampling when appropriate. The objective is to assess whether remediated areas have been returned to Condition 1, consistent with the terminology and principles of the ANSI/IICRC S520 standard, and whether additional corrective work is warranted. If concerns remain, we document those findings and provide recommendations for additional corrective measures before further verification. PRV provides important information about the condition of the evaluated areas at the time of assessment; it does not constitute a medical clearance or guarantee the absence of future contamination.
Physician Collaboration & Environmental Consultation
Providing the building-side investigation that complements medical care. For patients experiencing environmentally related health concerns, understanding the condition of their living environment may be an important component of the overall decision-making process. We collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers who work with patients affected by suspected Environmentally Acquired Illness (EAI), including Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). Our role is to investigate the building, evaluate environmental conditions, interpret environmental laboratory findings, and communicate relevant information that may assist healthcare providers and their patients in making informed decisions about the living environment. We are familiar with environmental concerns commonly addressed by practitioners using the approaches associated with Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, Dr. Neil Nathan, Dr. Dale Bredesen, and other clinicians working with environmentally sensitive populations. Our findings remain grounded in building science and environmental assessment. Medical diagnosis, treatment, and interpretation of clinical testing remain the responsibility of the patient's healthcare provider.
Supporting Our Clients Through the Entire Process
Environmental investigations and remediation projects are not always straightforward. New information may emerge, priorities may change, and additional investigation may be necessary before the full extent of a problem is understood. My Home My Health provides continuity throughout this process—from the initial assessment and development of investigative hypotheses to remediation guidance, environmental cleaning recommendations, post-remediation verification, and follow-up assessments when appropriate. Our goal is to help clients understand the conditions within their buildings, address the underlying causes of contamination, and make informed decisions at every stage.
